Priscilla (Merkel) Decker passed away peacefully Nov. 29,
2021, at age 92, from a brain tumor. She was the youngest of five
girls, born in Java, S.D., March 16, 1929. In 1937, they moved to
Hillsboro, Ore.
After graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1946, she
enjoyed many class reunions. On Dec. 15, 1951, she married
Marvin Wesley Decker at the Hillsboro Methodist Church.
They had two children, Diane Decker and Marvin William
Decker. Priscilla loved her family: Diane’s daughter Pam Melot,
husband Jon Melot, their daughter Jenny Melot, and Diane’s
son Peter Lilly; Marvin and Julie (Taal) Decker’s daughters
Whitney and Courtney Decker.
In May 1960, they bought their farm in Scholls. She was the
checker or “boss” in strawberry, bean and cucumber harvests,
bookkeeper and helped run harvesting equipment. Her work
ethic and many business roles made lasting impressions on
those around her. In 1969, Priscilla became a Realtor for Bill
Snyder Realty in Hillsboro, making lasting friendships. Her
understanding of farms and land gave her a unique advantage
in sales.
After Dad passed away in 1997, Mom developed her artistic
skills, attending classes, taking many photos, drawing and
painting many watercolors of things she liked.
Preceded in death by parents, Phillip and Lydia (Rub)
Merkel; husband, Marvin Wesley Decker; sisters, Eva (Lutz)
Nagler, Delilah (Wood) Dentone, Mary Williams and Martha
