Randall Scott Olsen, age 70, died at home near Portland, Oregon on March 30th, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. A resident of the Hillsboro area his entire life, he has a deep connection with his farm in Helvetia where he lived for 42 years and raised his family. Depending on your relation, he would prefer it if you called him Scott, Ole, or Dude.
Scott attended Linfield College in McMinnville as a student of mathematics, turning that knowledge into a career that involved working with many friends and family as well as with aerospace, microchip, medical, and education industries. He spent most of his professional life building virtual things as a software engineer, and the last few years breaking down physical things as a composter on the farm. In both ventures he was an expert in dealing with "bugs".
Ole enjoyed river rafting, camping, juggling, baseball, and stacking firewood, as well as tormenting friends and family with river rafting, camping, juggling, baseball, and stacking firewood. He was an amateur poet, philosopher, pancake-maker, and solver of crosswords and logic puzzles.
Dude is survived by his wife of 42 years, Robin Elizabeth Van Tilburg Olsen; two children: his daughter Jenna Louise Brown (age 40) in Portland and his son Jesse Scott Olsen (age 37) in New York City; two grandchildren: Luca (age 2) and Jacob (age 1); his sister Patricia; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was deeply dedicated to his family and he loved and inspired his friends.
A service will be held at the Old Scotch Church in Hillsboro on Saturday, April 16th at 11am. The family welcomes any and all positive thoughts, prayers, photos, and stories from people who care about him.
