Renee Diane (Puschel) Goodrich joined the angels in heaven September 17, 2019. She fought a valiant battle against cancer for 3 years, but her body grew weary. Her family is thankful she is at peace and no longer in discomfort. We are proud of the strength and dignity she fought cancer with.
Renee was born September 22, 1948 to Eugene and Charlotte Puschel in Twin Falls, Idaho. Her childhood was spent in Idaho, California, and Oregon. She began high school in Chico, California but her family moved to Oregon, where she graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1967. Renee married Don Goodrich soon after graduation and settled in the area to start her family.
Daughter Christine was born in July 1968, followed by daughter Sandra in June 1969. Renee settled into motherhood, and a decade later in February 1979, son Douglas was born, completing her family. Renee spent the next several years as a hard working mother, with her focus on her children.
Renee worked at Epson in Hillsboro, Oregon doing a variety of tasks over the years. She carried many fond memories of her years spent there. She had other jobs over the years as well, but Epson was the one she considered her career. In her later years, she moved to the Boise area in Idaho to be closer to her parents. She was thankful to be close to her mother when she had her own health struggles and was with her when she passed away in December 2003.
In June 2007, Renee married Terry Martin in Idaho. Renee returned to Oregon in 2012 and found a wonderful community in Newberg, where she was surrounded by friends and close to family. Terry joined her in Newberg, and was a faithful companion for her as they navigated retirement and growing older together. Renee was a strong, steady caretaker for Terry in his later years and was by his side when he lost his battle with cancer in February 2016.
Renee’s own cancer diagnoses came later in 2016, and following surgery, she endured multiple treatments over the next three years in her quest to beat the odds. Her enduring strength and perseverance were something to admire, but after taking a fall on August 20th, her body became weak. Her spirit kept fighting, and she had four blessed weeks of love and conversation with her family and friends. When her soul became too tired to fight any longer, her family let her know they wanted her to be at peace, in a place where her body could be whole again. As difficult as it was to say goodbye, we know she is in heaven now, an angel on all our shoulders. We are certain she had a joyful reunion with Coco, full of puppy kisses and happy cuddles!
Renee leaves behind a wonderful legacy of family and friendship; she is survived by her father Eugene Puschel and his wife Faye; daughter Christine and husband Chad, daughter Sandra and husband Darren, son Doug and wife Ellen, cherished grandchildren Brandi, Shelby and husband Alex, Chase, Donovan, Matthew, Jay, Gracie and Joel; brother Mike and wife Toni, sister Cindy and husband Dave; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Her loss will also be felt within her Nut Tree Ranch community, where she lived her last seven years. She formed many wonderful friendships and enjoyed sharing stories during weekly coffee chats and taking her friends on outings around town.
Renee will be remembered by her loved ones as a fiercely independent woman who valued her family above all else. She enjoyed sewing, canning, gardening and crafting. She adored Coco and catered to her every need. Her happiest moments were when her family joined together for a holiday meal in her home. Renee was always ready to help her neighbors and loved ones with any need. She leaves a legacy of caring and supporting others that will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
