Richard Leroy Baune was born in Woodburn, Oregon on January 8, 1942 to Chris and Juanita Baune. To his children he was Dad, to his family and friends he was Dick.
Dick lived with his family mostly in the Willamette Valley all during his childhood. He quit high school in his senior year and went to work in the logging industry for about 3 years. In 1963 he enlisted in the Army. When he was notified that he would be deployed to Germany, while home on leave, he married Mary Ann Crowe from Sheridan, Oregon. Mary Ann later joined him in Germany for his remaining time in the service. While in Germany the newlywed couple did extensive travel in Germany and several other countries. He also completed his GED through the military.
After he was discharged from the service in 1966 he worked at several companies in the area as a welder making trailers and motorhomes. In 1981 he and Mary Ann decided it was time for him to open Midway Custom Cabinets. He always took pride in his ability to create beautiful works of art, furniture, home and office cabinets. During the years with his cabinet shop he has built many of the cabinets at OHSU Hospital in Hillsboro. He made cabinets for many of the homes in the Midway area. He also made cabinets for businesses in Washington, Multnomah and Clackamas County. This was his business until his health no longer allowed him to work in the cabinet shop.
Dick was an active member of TVF&R Midway Volunteer Fire Dept. for 15 years. He served there as an engineer and an EMT3. He was an avid car enthusiast and loved working on the engines. He had a large collection of antique guns many of which he had restored or built.
Dick was preceded in death by his daughter, Polly Anne in 2001; and his wife, Mary Ann in 2004. Dick is survived by his son, Wade Baune of Raleigh Hills, Oregon; his sister, Rita Gorman (Marty) of Salem, Oregon; sister, Shirley Groshong (Harold) of Roy, Washington; sister, Janet Fleming (Mike) of Beaverton, Oregon; brother, Ronald Baune (Joan) of Sutherlin, Oregon; and sister Susan Vanderzanden (Jeff); He is also survived by an aunt and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
