Richard (Dick) James Pesek, 89, formerly of Rapid City, SD, died Friday, February 15th, 2019 in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Born July 27, 1929, he was the son of Adolph G Pesek and Christina K Hruska in Mellette County, South Dakota. He was raised in Rapid City, SD and graduated from Rapid Central School in 1947. Then met the love of his life Patricia Mansfield in Rapid City and married her on August 14, 1950. Dick served honorably in the United States Army as a surveyor (1950 -1951) but was honorably discharged due to a knee injury. After his military service, he went to work for Julian Straven Engineering as a surveyor. Then he transitioned into a long career as a bricklayer in Rapid City, SD. In 1987, Dick and Patricia decided to move to Portland, Oregon where he worked as a bricklayer for 10 years. Dick retired in 1997 and enjoyed square dancing, hiking, making wine and salsa, fishing, and hunting. He also was a proud father of four daughters and four sons, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren that he enjoyed spending time with.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Mansfield; six of his children: Lori Krush – Hillsboro, OR; Cheryl Wasko (Richard) – Kiowa CO; Gail Poole – Aurora, CO; David Pesek - Boonville, NC; Donald Pesek (Misty) Flagstaff, AZ; Dale Pesek – Mukilteo, WA. 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Rosanne Mansfield – Rapid City, SD. Dick was preceded in death by his two eldest children Rhonda K Pesek and Douglas D Pesek along with his brothers Ralph Pesek, Rapid City, SD, Red Pesek, Rapid City, SD, Bob Pesek, Houston, TX, Paul Pesek, Mesa, AZ, and Joe Pesek Rockledge, FL.
Memorial service will be held with Rosary at 11:00, Mass at 11:30 with Celebration of Life at 12:30 with lite lunch on 21 February, 2019. At St Mathews Church, 475 SE 3rd Ave, Hillsboro, OR 97123 where Patricia and Dick were longtime voluntaries at the parish.
