Lifelong Hillsboro resident, Richard “Dick” Earl Soule, 82, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at his home in Hillsboro.
Richard was born March 19, 1940 to Robert Milo & Edith Lenore (Putnam) Soule in Hillsboro, Oregon. After growing up on the family walnut farm on Bald Peak, he entered the Army National Guard. Dick then went to start his 35 plus year career at Esco Steel Foundry, where he rose to the position of Production Control Manager.
Dick helped to raise two daughters on the same farm he grew up on; teaching, coaching and always being the supportive Dad. Happy and full of life, Dick enjoyed every moment with family and friends. He loved his softball and bowling teams but retired to golf and travelling with his wife BJ. Dick was a member of the Hillsboro Elks Lodge #1862 for over 39 years, enjoying volunteering for the lodge and relaxing times with buddies as well as the weekly Tonk card games. Dick was named Elk of the year in 2003. He was also a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
Dick enjoyed baseball, softball, bowling, golf, hunting, fishing and playing cards at the Elks Lodge. Being the big practical joker he was, he never let a great opportunity pass by…getting everyone laughing. He will be greatly missed by all! No one was a stranger to him, and now all of heaven gets to enjoy what we all did.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Barbara “BJ” Soule; his two daughters, Chemaine Soule & Cheri Butler (Mike) and his step-daughter, Tamara Stevens; six grandchildren, Colin & Bryn Stevens, Stevie Benedict, Josh Lewis (Danielle), Niki Cook and Dylan Burk; two great-grandchildren, Krosley Benedict and Ezekiel Lewis.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the Hillsboro Elks Lodge, 7553 NE Quatama St, Hillsboro, OR 97124.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s memory to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
Arrangements were cared for by the Fir Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
