Robert "Bob" Jenkins (W7Bkn)

November 23, 1940 — April 13, 2018

Bob, a retired electrical engineer, graduated from Portland’s David Douglas High School in 1958 and went on to obtain his B.S. in physics from OSU and his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford.  He retired from Beaverton Welch Allyn in 2008.

In the latter part of his career, after designing components for sensitive compact medical monitors, he specialized in EMI compliance (EMC).  He enjoyed extensive travel participating in regulatory decision making in the U.S. and performing compliance testing in Europe.  He particularly enjoyed his work in Ireland and Germany, experiencing the culture and making friends with his engineering counterparts over the pond.

After retirement, he continued to pursue his lifelong love of amateur radio.  A long standing member of TERAC and OTVARC, he took immense pleasure participating in contests and events, and looked forward to Friday night pizza and monthly Thirsty Thursdays.   His children have 50-year-old memories of monthly HAM nights when Mom could serve Kraft Mac and Cheese because she didn’t have to fix a grown up meal for Dad.

He was also dedicated connoisseur of Portland’s microbrews (when he wasn’t in Germany sampling the traditional Bavarian brews).  He was a big fan of the Oregon Brewer’s Festival.  Attending the annual brunch and parade had become a long standing family tradition, with family members traveling to join him here.

Bob met his wife of 54 years, Jane Jenkins nee Oliver, at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. when they were both young scientists assisting with research related to the moon launches.

Bob aka Dad is deeply mourned by his wife Jane; daughters Elizabeth and Joanna; son Charles and daughter-in-law Cherie.   He was deeply loved and will always be missed.
