Roger A. Perkins of Hillsboro, Oregon, died Sunday, October 4, 2015, after a long battle with health issues.
A native Oregonian, Roger was born September 22, 1944, in Eugene, Oregon, to Maxine Bainter and Xelphine Perkins. Roger grew up in Westfir, Oregon. In his boyhood and well in into adulthood, he enjoyed fishing and swimming in the river, camping, and huntinganything outdoors.
After graduating high school, Roger joined the U.S. Army and enjoyed his time stationed in Germany. While there, he traveled to many of the wonders of Europe.
He spent his career doing a variety of things. Roger was a State Police Officer for the State of Oregon, a logger, and a heavy duty mechanic. He retired as a janitor for the Beaverton School District.
One of the greatest joys and times in his life was the time he spent an entire summer as a Forest Service Camp Host in Oakridge, Oregon. He enjoyed conversations with people from all over, playing horseshoes, and enjoying time around the camp fire.
Later in life he enjoyed time spent as a trustee for the Eagles Lodge in Cornelius, Oregon, serving the members and the community.
One of his greatest enjoyments was time spent with his grandson, William Young.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon E. Quaring, of Hillsboro: his two daughters, Suzy Jessen of Orem, Utah; Michelle Young of Hillsboro; and his grandson, William Young of Hillsboro; his sister Nancy Hugill of Kaiser, Oregon, and nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Frazier.
His memorial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 8, 2015, at the Donelson Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
