Roger Allen Weinkauf was welcomed to his Heavenly home and reunited with the love of his life, Margaret Darlene, on August 13th, 2022, at the age of 88. Roger was born December 19th, 1933 in Pipestone County, Minnesota to Arthur Fred Weinkauf and Margaret Christine (Jepsen) Weinkauf.
In 1955 he joined the United States Army where he was a radio operator/repair technician stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. While trying to make a phone call and connect with another phone line back in Pipestone, he met Margaret Darlene Fischer, the analog switchboard operator. That must have been a great conversation, as in April of 1960, Roger and Margaret were married. In 1963, the couple moved to Oregon.
Throughout Roger’s life, he enjoyed many ventures. He loved farming, woodworking, as well as working on cars. He was a Ford man. Of all the jobs he worked throughout his life, he stated on many occasions, working for West Union School was by far his favorite. He was known by colleagues and students alike as Grandpa Weinkauf and was also known to sneak extra cookies from Leslie in the kitchen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur and mother Margaret Christine. Also, preceded in death by sisters, Esther Marie, Marjorie Mae, Mary Lou, Maxine Mildred, and Joan Eva; brothers Edwin Emil, Stanley Arthur, Arthur Jr (Art), and Duane Jepsen; his wife Margaret Darlene (Fischer) Weinkauf, Baby Boy Weinkauf, and son Steven Allen Weinkauf.
Roger is survived by sisters Margaret LaVonne and Jeanette June, as well as younger brother James (Jim) Donald. He is also survived by his two daughters, Crystal (Andrew) Rau of Hood River County and Valerie Moore of Washington County; Grandchildren Tricia (Matthew) Leininger, Necole Moore, Cierra Moore, Nate Moore, and Megan Weinkauf; Great grandchildren AJ Leininger and Declan Leininger.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the Fir Lawn Memorial Park, 1070 West Main Street, Hillsboro, OR 97123. Military honors will be performed and he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Margaret. All are welcome to attend a celebration of life at Roger's home following the graveside service.
