Roland "Ron" Lee Rothert April 30, 1921 - February 26, 2012 Ron passed quietly Sunday night at his home, holding the hand of his loving wife Patsy. Ron was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from Hillsborough High School before going to work as a reporter for the Tampa Tribune. When World War II began he joined the Merchant Marines and served as an officer on an Atlantic transport ship. He finished the war on the other side of the world with the rank of sergeant serving as the radio operator/navigator on a B-29 flying out of Guam.
After the war Ron and his then wife Yvonne moved to the Pacific Northwest where he worked in the retail appliance business before starting his own successful insurance agency in 1961. His business still operates today in Northeast Portland and celebrated fifty years in business.
Ron is survived by his wife Patsy, three daughters Carol Petersen, Anne Rothert, and Jan Reynolds, and three sons, George Rothert, Mark Rothert and Paul Rothert, step-son Tony Roles, 16 grand children and several great grandchildren.
The family asks that any remembrance Ron be sent to Doctors without Borders.
Recitation of the Rosary Monday March 5 at 10:30 AM followed by funeral Mass at 11:00 A. M. at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Committal 11:30 A. M. Tuesday March 6 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Viewing at Donelson-Fir Lawn Memorial Center, 1070 W. Main in Hillsboro 2:00 PM until 5:00 P.M. on Saturday March 3 and Sunday March 4.
