Ronald Richard Bretthauer
10.26.32 - 1.9.15
Ron passed peacefully with family at his bedside at the age of 82. He was born in Hillsboro, Oregon to Fred and Edna Bretthauer. He lived his entire life in Hillsboro, moving from his parent's home to his own home that he built himself on property he bought next to his parents. On August 7, 1952 he married Margie in the backyard of his parents home. Together they raised two children, Gail and Steve. In 1980 Ron and Margie purchased Bretthauer Road Oil from Ron's brother, Don. They built it into a successful business, and Ron retired only when his health made it too difficult to go into the office.
Family was most important to Ron, never missing any chance to attend his grandchildren's activities and robustly directing them on the best (only) way to mow a lawn. He and his son also enjoyed many camping trips he lead with Indian Guides and Boy Scouts. Ron was actively involved in the Jaycees and Kiwanis - he especially looked forward to the Fourth of July Kiwanis pancake breakfast where he was the sausage master for many years.
For many years Ron was Santa Clause, at least to family, friends, and anywhere else that needed a little Christmas cheer. He particularly enjoyed his Santa visits to the community homes for the disabled.
A memorial service will be held Monday, January 19, 10:00 am. at Donelson Funeral Chapel in Hillsboro.
