Roy Dean Rowe 12/7/1950 - 10/1/2021
Roy Dean Rowe, 70, passed away on October 1, 2021 in his Hillsboro, Oregon home. A memorial service will be held on November 7, 2021, at the River House, Rood Bridge Park, Hillsboro, Oregon.
Roy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and lived in Hawaii until middle school when he moved with his parents to California. The family moved again when Roy was in high school, this time to Sweet Home, Oregon. He attended Sweet Home High School and graduated from there in 1968 with his best friend, Jack Hankins. Roy and Jack attended Linn Benton Community College when it was a new school without a permanent home. He graduated from LBCC in 1970 and moved to Monmouth to attend Oregon College of Education. He graduated from OCE in 1972 with a teaching credential and a fiancée.
On September 1, 1973 Roy and DiAnne Fentress married in the First Christian Church in downtown Portland, Oregon. This church was special because DiAnne’s grandparents, Curtis and Vivian Nye, had married there in 1923. Roy is survived by his wife of 48 years, DiAnne, his sons Bart, 41, living in Corvallis, and Ben, 38, living in Hillsboro. He was also blessed to have his brothers and sisters-in-law John and Mary Ann Aschenbrenner in Portland, Oregon and David and Mary Aschenbrenner in Milwaukie, Oregon and Jeff Fentress of San Anselmo, California. His much loved nieces and nephews include Alexis Aschenbrenner of San Francisco, California, Amy Aschenbrenner of Milwaukie, Oregon, Kindra and Dylan De’Arman of Eugene, Oregon, and Paul Fentress of Berkeley, California. His parents, Roy E. and Edna Anah Rowe predeceased their only son.
Roy worked as a book buyer, seller and book store manager for many years. When the family moved to Corvallis Roy worked for Hewlett Packard for the rest of his working life and made many life-long friends there. He left HP in 2001 to move to Lake Oswego, Oregon where DiAnne was working. Roy willingly took on the chauffeuring needs of his mother-in-law Yvonne Nye Kuppenbender as she fought, and eventually lost, a long battle with cancer. Roy and DiAnne eventually settled down in Hillsboro where they have lived for many years.
Above all, Roy loved his family and cherished his friends. Roy played on the Hawaiian Shirts Trivia Team weekly for over thirty years. He loved his Oregon State Beavers, especially the women’s gymnastics team, and attended meets with the same group of friends for 35 years. Roy attended Portland Timbers games when the team was brand new and followed them ever since. However, the Portland Thorns were the team of his heart and watched them play in person, on tv or on his phone. He never missed a game. Roy also loved crossword puzzles and Sudoku, especially the ones in The Oregonian. He had stacks of puzzles left to solve when he unexpectantly passed away. He was happy, well loved, and loved others dearly. Roy will forever live in the memories of those whose lives he touched.
Mahalo for a wonderful life well lived.
