Samuel Csergei, 85, of Beaverton, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 of causes related to aging. He was preceded in death by his triplet daughters Jean Marie, Janeen Frances, and Julie Ann and by his wife of 52 years, Eleonore.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Fir Lawn Memorial Park, 1070 W. Main St., Hillsboro, Oregon 97123.
Sam was born in the family home on Cherry Lane in Orenco, OR on December 9, 1926. He was the last of 9 children born to Louis and Rosa Csergei. Growing up Sam enjoyed almost all outdoor activities, such as hunting and fishing, and was an avid and exceptional athlete.
On Dec. 13, 1943, Sam left school and home to enlist in the U.S. Navy and join the fight in WW II. He served aboard the U.S.S. Wren (DD 568) in the South Pacific as a signalman 1st Class, earning the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal-3 stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on May 8, 1946 and returned to the family home in Orenco.
On July 21, 1951, Sam married Eleonore Horning, also of Orenco, in Stevenson, WA. After marriage, Sam went to trade school to become a carpenter, a craft that he plied for over 20 years. He eventually obtained his real estate license and worked in the real estate business until retiring in the early 1980's.
Sam spent his later years enjoying his family and watching it continue to grow with the addition of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sam is survived by his four children, daughter Julie and her husband Dan Baker of Aloha, OR, twin sons Guy and his wife Ann Csergei of Aberdeen, WA, and Jack and his wife Debbie Csergei of Newberg, OR, and daughter Aline and her husband Herb Lommen of Aloha, OR. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren that includes twin boys.
Sam will be laid to rest with his wife and daughters on June 9, 2012 at 11:00 am at Fir Lawn Memorial Park in Hillsboro.
Memorials may be made to OHSU Knight Cancer Institute in memory of Sam.
