Aloha resident, Mrs. Sherry Lee Carlile, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 79.
Sherry was born February 10, 1944 to John & Jessie (Kay) Doty in Joplin, Missouri. The Doty family moved to Sutherlin, Oregon in the 1950’s, including her older sister, Ginger. When Sherry was seven, her mother died when giving birth to her little sister, Juanita. Her father was killed in a car accident when she was nine.
She had a very hard life, living with several different aunts, before moving in with her sister, Ginger and her husband until she reached her 18th birthday in 1962. At this time, the social surety benefits she was receiving from her father was coming to an end and she was told she would need to move out. Since Sherry and CJ were engaged at the time, CJ told her, “We are going to move the wedding date up and get married now,” which they did on September 15, 1962.
Sherry & CJ had a son in 1963, David James Carlile, followed by a daughter, Terry Lynn Carlile in 1968. They lost their son in 1989. Sherry was devoted to her family all her life. CJ stated that he thinks that was because she had such a hard life in her early years.
Sherry and CJ did everything together all their life, from car shows to grocery shopping. She was interested in flowers and decorating for every holiday.
Sherry had worked at the Christmas store at Washington Square and at K-Mart in Beaverton until she retired in 1991. Sherry’s favorite thing was to be with her grandkids. She quit working to babysit both kids, later she would take them to school each morning and pick them up after school. She would always slip a dollar in their pocket “just in case they needed money,” and many days there would be special treats after school. Sherry was at every football game, baseball game, dance recital and competition.
CJ said that Sherry was a perfect wife he loved from the day they met and will never stop loving her.
Sherry was preceded in death by her son, Dave; and sisters, Ginger and Juanita. She is survived her husband, CJ Carlile of Aloha, OR; daughter and son in-law, Terri and Randy Carter of Aloha, OR; grandson, Dalton Carter of Aloha, OR and granddaughter, Brittany Carter of Beaverton, OR.
Sherry was laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Fir Lawn Memorial Park.
A Celebration of Sherry’s life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Westside Community Church, 18390 SW Farmington Road, Aloha, OR 97007.
