Tomi Alys Deveraux Earl
2/6/1975 – 2/15/2020
With a strong and courageous spirit, Tomi Alys Deveraux Earl passed away in the loving support of family and friends on February 15th 2020. She summed up her long battle with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Mast Cell Activation with the welcome last words of “I feel no pain.”
Tomi was born in Casper, Wyoming, truly a western girl; daughter to Douglas Gary Deveraux and Margaret Alys Hawkins Deveraux; sister to Danny (Sally), Gary David -known as Bo; Laurie Bruck (Rick), Kim Gates (Mark) and Ted (Stacy). Tomi attended schools in Hillsboro, OR, Uvalde, Texas and Linfield College where she received her RN degree. She practiced her philosophy of care “Always Inspire Meaningful Hope” and served as a well respected ER, Trauma and Pediatric ICU nurse at Emmanuel, Tuality and Kaiser hospitals in Portland and Hillsboro. She believed in holistic healing and immersed herself in Native American spirituality.
Her children, natural born and gained in marriage were her love and the reason she fought EDS so fiercely for over 10 years. Tylar Garret Deveraux, Sophia Margaret Alys Earl, Gareth Stefan Earl, and Kristina Stevens were beside her sharing her love of nature, camping, archery, hunting, music, photography and many forms of art, and advocacy. Marriages to Darin Stevens and Jason Lee Earl widened the family circle even after divorce. She touched so many lives and her heart was always kind.
Tomi is survived by her parents, five siblings and their families including many nieces and nephews; and her grandchildren – Kristina’s two children Klaire and Ryden; and her aunt Phyllis Friese Meade (Jim) and cousin Leona Ruth Spencer.
Her grandparents Red and Ruth Deveraux, Ted and Mavis Hawkins and her namesake Tom Hawkins predeceased her.
Tomi was beautiful, deep down to her soul.
