Velma L. Zielger passed away November 21, 2010, with family by her side. Velma was born March 31, 1918, in Scholls, Oregon, and was the daughter of Carl and Evalena (Hutchens) Wohlschlegel. Raised and schooled in Scholls, where she has lived for most of her life, she graduated from Hilhi in 1936.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm, Monday, November 29, 2010, at Donelson-Fir Lawn Memorial Center, 1070 W. Main St., Hillsboro, Oregon. Private interment will be at Mountainside Cemetery in Scholls, OR.
Velma and Milburn Ziegler were married January 10, 1937, in Newberg, Oregon, and raised their family on the farm in Scholls. A member of what was the Groner Junior Women's Club (now known as the Scholls Women's Club) for over 60 years. She was in charge of the plant sales for many years, as well as an active volunteer for all projects as well as serving food for funerals.
Velma was also active in the schools while her daughters were in school.
An avid gardener, she also enjoyed camping, fishing, supporting the grandchildren's soccer and she loved to travel.
She is survived by her husband, Milburn of Newberg, OR; 2 daughters, Judy & Doug Olsen of Newberg, OR, and Cindy & Ned Nelson of Marysville, WA; 4 granddaughters, Krista Rahf of Newberg, OR, Kim Olsen of Denver, CO, Nicki and Jessica Nelson, both of Marysville, WA; 2 great granddaughters, Annika and Amalia Rahf; and her sister Nadine Wendland of Hillboro, OR.
Memorial are to be made to either the Scholls Women's Club or the Scholls Grange.
