William "Bill" Andrew Johnson

William "Bill" Andrew Johnson passed away at the age of 98 on Saturday, December 3, 2022, in Hillsboro, Oregon. Bill was born on June 26, 1924 to Oscar James Johnson who immigrated from Sweden in 1903, and Ruth Elzan Elkins whose grandfather came to Oregon across the Oregon Trail. Bill was born and raised in Seaside, Oregon. In 1942, at the age of 17, he joined the Navy and served 28 years seeing action in WW2, Korea, and the Vietnam War. On September 15, 1954, Bill married Doris Louise Oliver at the Navy base on Treasure Island, California. They lost their first born, James Oliver Johnson, at the age of two, but raised two more sons; David and Dan. After retiring from the Navy, Bill worked seventeen years for the Oregon DMV managing the Hillsboro office. In retirement he volunteered countless hours at the Oregon Food Bank, Hillsboro Senior Center, Tuality Community Hospital, Hillsboro Park and Recreation, the Hillsboro Police Department and his church. He was a generous supporter of Portland Rescue and Union Gospel Missions. He had a passion for US Naval history, fishing, wood-working, gardening, tending his orchard and running. At 92 years old he was still walking 5 miles each morning. Bill is survived by his wife Doris; Dave and Sarena Johnson; Dan and Karin Johnson. His grandkids: Jarrod and Bella Johnson; Jacob and Gina Johnson; Andrew and Jessica Johnson; Matthew and Sarah Johnson; Justin and Meagan Johnson; Hannah (Johnson) and Kyle Mast;Billy Johnson; and 13 great-grandkids. Full military honors will be conducted at Willamette National Cemetery. Donations in remembrance of Bill may be sent to Cornelius Community Church in Cornelius, Oregon.
